General instructions
Here I made a transliterator-redirector which may be really useful for you, if you want to
using simple shortcuts in your browsers address bar (for example typing "tg privet" will result in the search of the russian word привет in google).
How does it work?
The principle is very simple:
the query-string: m=de:translit:russian:google&s=privet means open google with the russian transliteration and the de (german) interface with the query привет.
Implemented features so far
Of course google and russian ist not the only thing implemented so far and there is the possibility for using abbrevations for the names:
Implemented sites, (abbrevation)
- google, (g)
- google_lucky, (gl) ("I'm Feeling Lucky")
- wikipedia, (w)
- multitran, (m)
- yandex, (y)
- display, (d) (Just shows the result as plain text)
Implemented Transliterations
(look at http://ncnever.free.fr/translit/ for the transliteration tables):
- russian, (ru)
- georgian, (ge)
The languages of the sites
The language parameter depends on the site. Wikipedia and google offer nearly all languages. Examples are:
- de, en, ru, ge (google) / ka (wikipdia), fr...
Be sure to use the rights abbrevations. For georgian as example wikipedia uses ka and google uses ge. If leave out the language parameter, the language will be taken from the transliteration direction, e.g.
is equivalent to
Other abbrevations and features
- translit can be abbrevated as tr.
- Text within the square brackets will not be transliterated, for example "kirkorov [mp3 download]" will result in "киркоров mp3 download".
So let's try some examples
Let's look at the georgian stuff
That's fine, but how to use it?
Implementation in Mozilla Firefox
- Go to the Bookmark Mananger
- Add a new bookmark
- Enter a name and the url, for example Name Translit to russian and google with the url http://ncnever.free.fr/red/?m=de:tr:ru:g&s=%s
- The %s in Firefox stands for the searched word.
- Enter a keyword like tg and a description.
- Save it and enjoy it!
Implementation in Konqueror
- Go to Settings > Configure Konqueror > Web Shortcuts
- Press new and add a name and the URL, for example Translit google and http://ncnever.free.fr/red/?m=de:tr:ru:g&s=\{@}
- The \{@} in Konqueror stands for the searched word.
- Enter the shortcut, for example tg
- Save it.
Implementation in Maxthon
Maxthon is a MS IE with tabs and other features.
- Go to Options > Maxthon Options > Search
- add an alias and the URL, for example tg (translit google) and http://ncnever.free.fr/red/?m=de:tr:ru:g&s=%s
- The %s in Maxthon stands for the searched word.
- Save and test it typing tg privet in your address bar. Enjoy!
Implementation in Microsoft Internet Explorer
For this browser exists a simple way to implement your search-shortcuts:
http://searchy.protecus.de/de/add.php.
For the implemented searches here I already made these entries in the protecus.de-database, so you don't have to enter it a twice. You can easily download the following .reg files.
(I Think you can trust protecus.de, but please pay attention, that you are downloading .reg-files which may be a security risk for your Computer!)
You can set your own shortcut by modifying the link &shortcut=YOURSHORTCUT. After having downloaded a file execute it. That's all.
If you want to uninstall these registry-entries, look at http://searchy.protecus.de/ at the bottom, there is a .reg-file which unistalls them. You should even look around at this site there, they have a lot of useful search-shortcuts!
Planed features
- A search named "clipboard" which copies the transliteration result to the clipboard (only MS IE).
- A possibility to show the alphabets in clear text.
- A possibility to add alphabets.
Suggestions
If you want me to add some other searcheengines or transliteration directions or if you have any suggestions for improvements, please feel free to contact me by email – I'll quickly add your wishes.
You can even send me your prefered oder additional transliteration alphabets an I'll add them with your own alphabet name (for example you would have to replace the language by ru2 or greek).
I hope that this service is useful for you.
